Due to safety concerns, the Malaysian government has advised its citizens not to travel to Libya for any reason. Independent travel is not permitted, and visitors must organize their visit through a tour guide. A tourist police escort is required at all times.[158] An eVisa will not be granted without a sponsor or tour agency.[159] A security letter issued by the Libyan Immigration Authorities may also be required.[160]
